Non-totalistic cellular automaton

Non-totalistic cellular automata are a generalization of Life-like cellular automata. The term is sometimes erroneously[1] used to refer to just isotropic non-totalistic cellular automata, rules in which the global transition function is isotropic (that is, invariant under rotations and reflections).
